The WGC Foundation is delighted to announce that Lisa Wainwright MBE has joined as the new Chair of Trustees. With over 30 years of experience in the sport and recreation sector, Lisa brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the Foundation.

Throughout her impressive career, Lisa has held several senior leadership roles, including CEO of Volleyball England and British Basketball, and most recently, CEO of the Sport and Recreation Alliance. During her time at the Alliance, Lisa championed grassroots sport, spearheading initiatives to safeguard national governing bodies and improving standards across the sector. She was instrumental in supporting over 300 member organisations through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Her contributions have not gone unnoticed, earning her an MBE in 2021 for services to sport and recreation.

Lisa’s passion extends beyond the technical aspects of sport administration. As a prominent advocate for diversity and inclusion, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community, she has mentored numerous women into leadership roles and has been a vocal ambassador for equality both nationally and internationally. Her dedication to creating opportunities for all through sport aligns seamlessly with the WGC Foundation’s mission of building sustainable and inclusive communities.

In welcoming Lisa, Martin Birch, President of WGC Foundation, expressed his excitement: We are thrilled to have Lisa join the Foundation as Chair of Trustees. Her extensive experience and passion for community sport and recreation will be invaluable as we continue to expand our efforts in creating sustainable, inclusive opportunities across the UK. Lisa’s leadership and vision will help propel the Foundation to new heights.

The WGC Foundation looks forward to the incredible impact Lisa will undoubtedly bring as we continue to build stronger, more resilient communities through the power of sport and recreation. Stay tuned for updates on the exciting projects we’ll be working on under Lisa’s guidance.
